Known as the “liberal lion” of New York’s congressional delegation, Jerry Nadler has championed progressive causes throughout his career and has left his mark on many of the most important laws of the past two decades. He continues to lead the fight for a progressive, Democratic agenda in Congress.

  • Leading the efforts to expose the Trump administration’s efforts to overturn the Affordable Care Act
  • Passing the 9/11 Health and Compensation Act to win permanent funding for health care and support for responders and survivors
  • Leading, as Chair of the Judiciary Committee, the first impeachment trial of President Donald Trump
  • Defending the right to choose and protecting Planned Parenthood, including co-authoring the Freedom of Access to Clinics Act
  • Standing up to the NRA to pass gun laws that will save lives
  • Championing civil rights and liberties, from LGBTQ+ equality and the Justice in Policing Act to protecting voting rights across the country
  • Leading the fight for the Equality Act, which would provide comprehensive civil rights protections to LGBTQ Americans
  • Speaking out about transgender rights on the floor of the House, the first member of Congress to ever do so
  • Reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act
  • Co-authoring the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act
  • Leading the fight to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour
  • Co-sponsoring Medicare for All since its introduction in 2008
  • Leading the fight, with then-professor Elizabeth Warren, against GOP-led bankruptcy reform
  • Working to extend the Child Tax Credit to support working parents
  • Securing billions in increased funding for Section 8 housing and HOPWA (Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS)
  • Leading on climate change as an original co-sponsor of the Green New Deal and the Green New Deal for Housing
  • Advocating tirelessly for transportation and infrastructure, particularly New York’s mass transit system
  • Pushing for a transition to more energy efficient rail freight in New York and the development/building of the Cross-Harbor Rail Freight Tunnel
  • Leading the fight in Congress to stop approval of the Williams Pipeline in the Bay of New York
  • Passing the NO BAN Act, to ensure that Trump’s Muslim Ban was the last any president could enact
  • Fighting for the American Dream and Promise Act, which would provide legal protections and a path to citizenship for Dreamers
  • Leading the battle to renew the The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which would strengthen the Voting Rights Act and restore key protections for minority voters that were gutted by the Supreme Court
  • Authoring the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act to require workplaces to provide reasonable accommodations to pregnant women and protect women from retaliation
